Embroidered baby quilt

 I was given this embroidered pieces some years ago, but till now haven't create anything.

 

Finally it came - a special friend's son has a baby.

Collected some stripes and  began the sewing.

The design is easy - almost 9 patch deconstructed, but not exactly.

For the back I have used an IKEA fabric and the quilting is like an old photo.

What a wonderful world - an educational quilt for twin boys

 I can't believe I haven't shared here my last quilt from 2020.

It was amazing quilt for twin boys for playing on the floor.

The idea came when I receive an order to make a present for their birthday, but there is no time to sew two separate quilts.

 

 

There is a sun to play with the sunbeams.

and kite in the sky with tale with different texture ribbons

 

The rainbow comes after rain 

After winter

comes spring

 

There are autumn leaves, strawberry fields,  mountains and meadows, a lake with a fish and cats walking around.

The back is filled with stars.

What a wonderful world!

 

Christmas in July

Time for Christmas or Christmas time

The preparations began right after Halloween. Or much more earlier in July.
When do you begin?
For me is different every year.
It depends of the mood and the weather.
Now outside is a splendid autumn so thinking and preparing something for Christmas is almost impossible.
But designing this Christmas tree was so fast and funny.

After drawing with EQ7 began coloring .
At the beginning the tree was very bold - only in green colors.

After one false movement of the mouse there appeared  new possibilities.

Different background looks like the winding way, don't you think?

I have some ideas about.

Oh My Deer or sewing small squares

 I always like sewing little items.
Do you know these tiny pieces - sometimes sewn improvisational sometimes ordered with perfect matching corners.
Till one morning a week ago.
I have seen a tapestry diagram on Pinterest with reindeers, trees and snowflakes.
I knew I had to make it as a quilt - this time mug rug only.
I made a sketch of squares and began cutting.
Ordered the small pieces on a fusible interfacing with little help of glue stick.

Ironed when finished and began sewing.

  Here I realized how small is one inch square.

 But I kept sewing.

I wish I knew another way for using a fusible interfacing.
Elizabeth Hartmann from Oh Franson shared an interesting and helpful method.

I wandered a little bit about binding, but finally have a finished mug rug

The diagram is very versatile - use different size of grid to sew mug rug, cushion case or tablemat.

The four seasons Wall hanging

 Two months ago I have a really interesting order to make a wall hanging that will match to the interior of a room. It was a real challenge because of mix of various materials and special spirit of the interior.
I decided on classical Black and White with fuchsia accent.
The four seasons always are good theme for improvisations so trees and fallen leaf are quite interesting directions to push my efforts.
In progress on my design wall:

I usually work with mini quilts or single blocks so my wall is narrow for entire top with boarders :)

For quilting I try the spiral for collecting all seasons and as reminiscence of tree annual rings.

I love using my walking foot. The quilting took me almost 2 hours - to short time for the quilt sized 33 inches square.

More Christmas trees

Do you remember my post from two days before? It was about a Christmas tree ornament.
Why not sewing more of them and give friends for decoration?
I decided to use small scraps from sewing stockings to make some more.
Collect different red, green, golden, printed fabrics and felt strips and cut them to triangles.
Thinking of how make my work easy I cut a rectangle of bating and placed them on.

Pin and stitch round perimeter.
Then trim leaving bating a quarter inch bigger.

Fast and easy!
Now turn back and stitch the rear triangle.
Clever, right?
Add string hangings and  count them. They were 14.
Good number for passing away 2014.

Oh, Cristmas tree

My dear neighbours were on the way to their home in South Africa.
I wanted to make a small, but special gifts for Christmas.
They had packed their luggage so it had to be small and remarkable. From all my heart.
Paper stars for the boys and a fabric tree for the girl. All they could be hang on the Christmas tree.



Making a tree is very easy and fun.
You will need:
      some fabric scraps
      white batting
      wooden clip
      string

Cut triangles from fabrics - The outer ones have to be smallest, next ones bigger and the white one - biggest.
The size depends on the wooden clip.

Lay three of them as shown - white batting, green (right side up). red dotted (right side up).
Stitch them together round perimeter of the red one.

Then turn back and place another couple - green red triangles and stitch the same way.
Add about 10" piece of string folded in half. I have used zig-zag stitch.



















Add embellishment as beads, golden thread, embroidery if like.
And clip the wooden clip!

Christmas Tree in July coaster - tutorial

I always wander what does it mean Christmas in July. It is too early to begin the preparation for the Christmas in December.
Type on Google search bar and what I have learned. It is so funny.
I have designed a paper pieced tree   for Christmas in July.

You could make many ways with different combination of green printed fabrics, add white lines as snow, add golden fabric as garlands.
You could embroider a star on the  top or hand stitch the garlands.

For the 6 inch coaster (finished size)  you will need:
6,5 inch block ,
6,5 inch backing fabric
6 inch square fusible batting.
First fuse the batting on the wrong side of the backing. Note that you have to iron at the right site.

Lay them right side together and sew round perimeter leaving 2-3 inches opening for turning over.

Clip the corners to prevent bulk.
Now comes a little trick.
Fold and iron well the seam allowances at the opening - the top and the backing.

This will be very helpful after turning over. Look how it loos at the side.

Now turn and iron well. Stitch round perimeter.

Add embellishment and quilting as you desire.
