A Love tale - Last quilt for 2021

It is not easy to sit down in front of computer to write a post here with Instagram's invasion. Not so easy as before. With mobile in hand it seems the easiest thing is to open any App.

Call me old fashioned , but I am still doing my effort to keep alive this kid - my blog. 11 years so far. It became a teenager. Ha ha.

The last quilt for 2021 was a special design for a 14 years old girl. She described her idea and mentioned her favorite colors. You say it is enough , let's go!

I have promised to myself not to buy any fabric until I reduced my stash at least half. So I have use small pieces to create something that catch eyes.

At the beginning I draw a design with small squares 3 inches unfinished, but it seemed to ugly.

Then updated to this

calculated the blocks and started to make them.

First order on the floor has shown it is too busy, especially the blocks containing  red square.

I realized to place them in something as a frame .

A this stage I ordered similar blocks separated in rows - small squares, half triangles and bold squares. When I say bold it means - hand written prints as love letters, printed hearts, rose as a flower of love, a Tour Eiffel stamp - as you know the Paris is city of love.

I like this order so much and and stitched together.

The back

That was the whole story of the last 2021 quilt.

Wishing you all Merry Christmas and Happy New 2022!

Be fill with joy and power, be sensitive, creative!

Discover new challenges!

Halloween pumpkin quilt block

Happy to announce the finished paper pieced block on 1 of September.

The pattern is very versatile - you could rotate or make a mirror block so the quilt surface will be interesting.

I made a test block which intend to implement in a cushion case.

Time for Christmas or Christmas time

The preparations began right after Halloween. Or much more earlier in July.
When do you begin?
For me is different every year.
It depends of the mood and the weather.
Now outside is a splendid autumn so thinking and preparing something for Christmas is almost impossible.
But designing this Christmas tree was so fast and funny.

After drawing with EQ7 began coloring .
At the beginning the tree was very bold - only in green colors.

After one false movement of the mouse there appeared  new possibilities.

Different background looks like the winding way, don't you think?

Check soon for next trees.
I have some ideas about.

The digital seasons

I am happy!
Finally decided on binding of the wall hanging The Digital seasons.

The idea is to add small pieces of all fabrics I used as printing colors on the selvage.
The whole wall hanging is full of metaphoras - the fabrics I have chosen are connected with the colors of the seasons, the size of the blocks is different acording to my love to the seasons.
I love fall and hate winter.
Even the FMQ is corresponding to the seasons - wavy traces for the winter and blue water brooks for the spring.

I definatelly fall in love with these gravatars!

The Gravatar passion continues

One month!
I can not believe it has gone one month without posting here.
Uploading picture on Flickr seems to be an action from last century.
Instagram with device in a palm and fast comments pushed himself to the most usable media.
Anyway I will try to post once a month or often.

The gravatar passion continues. I have designed all the seasons and make them in a wall hanging.
Not finished yet but waiting for binding :)
After Summer gravatar I make the Spring.

Easy to sew you can make it different sizes.

Here comes the Autumn.

The more complicated pieces are the central ones. The easiest way to stitch them is freezer paper.
Fast and accurate method when needed to sew many simple and repeated blocks.

I used hand dyed fabrics to sew all the gravatars.

Finished wall hanging will be in next post with the pattern of winter.

Summer gravatar

I am hooked on designing gravatars. After spring pattern hot summer is coming
For this one I used hand dyed fabrics and batiks that remind me summer heat, summer colors. Pretty much satisfied with the result. As background I have used many pieces - different shades of white .

If you are more confident with freezer paper don't hesitate to use it.
You will save time with no tearing off the paper.

Combine some different colors - you will have a sunny baby quilt.

A Nail polish PP block

Some months ago I dreamed I make a present for a lady that cares about my nails.
What was  it?
A pouch with a nail polish.
Drawn by hand and sewn for 2 hours. What I have done.

The nail polish paper pieced block

I wander if there will be interest if I  make the PDF pattern and upload for FREE.

The girl - paper pieced stuffed doll

After finishing the boy I decided to continue the story and designed a girl for him.
Some days ago they met them and fell in love immediately.

The idea for making these guys came to me two years ago, but I couldn't find the proper shape.
At the beginning of May after  making some prototypes I was satisfied with the result.
Now they are a couple.

Even you are a beginner you can make it with more attention to the small pieces for the shoes.
I made the girl with closed eyes and long lashes - she looks so shy.
She is wearing in hands a beautiful bags as a real woman.

The very interesting detail is about the necklace.
I don't have in mind some jewelry except the bracelet at the wrist, but the neck looks "empty".

The chainstitched necklace looks so cute addition.

The girl is about 7.5 inches tall and the boy is 8 inches tall.
Some friends of mine adviced me to enlarge them.
Hm, what a good addition!

There was a boy - paper pieced stuffed doll

The work goes easy after a long time of thinking about both the idea and details.
I have made some prototypes before I got the shape right.
So proud to share with you.

I like paper piecing and design a pattern is not quite complicated to me.
After I found the perfect shape it was funny to finish the first doll, created this way.

Before stuffing:

There left a small step to the finish - sleep stitch the bottom.

The result - a nice doll to play with.

Stay tuned for the next my toys!

The Hexagon Alphabet

I decided to share some tricks making letters from Hexagon alphabet.

In case you have two sections' letter paper pieces both sections.

Sew together the sections.

Then add two pieces on the left and right.

Then add pieces up and down.
As you see it is not necessary to add perfect cut rectangles. I use every piece the same color I have by hand.
Then align the paper hexagon on the back and reduce the exceed fabric.
As the hexagon has lines you can easily align them to the stitch lines.
Make EPP your prefered way.

I pin and baste.

If it is still difficult to center the hexagon to the letter, look at the following tricks.

Happy sewing!
