Repair old tablecloth

I haven't been writing posts for nearly one month. It was busy June - worked on some old projects, spent a week in the mountains with a rucksack on my back.
This tablecloth is one I use when going to the mountains.
You know these sweet moments when sit down on the grass and have a rest with snack.

 
After some months of usage the tablecloth has some spots on it and they remained even after washing up.
So I decided to cut in pieces, remove apart the spotted ones and collect again.
First cut in 6 inches stripes.

Then cut squares.

The pieces without spots are about 50, but I reduce them to 48 - 6 x 8 for new surface.
Stitched them together random order - first gather 6 pieces in one strip, after this stitched together all 8 stripes.

Stitched round the perimeter.
I like the final result and put it in the rucksack waiting for the next trip.

Seminole border tutorial

Two years earlier I found seminole quilt borders and was amazed how easy it happens.
A boarder that seems very complicated is easy to sew following some simple steps.

1. Cut 3 strips and sew them together.
2. Cut equal pieces along the strips.
3. Turn each even piece.
4. Sew together and trim.

In my case I cut three strips:
1,5 " blue printed strip (it was 1" printed strip on the fabric)
3/4" dark red strip
2 " white strip

Sew them together to have such long strip.

Cut 1,5 " pieces along the whole strip, turn and stitch.

 

Don't worry  you have to trim. 

In my case I want to sew table napkins, so add a 2" strip on the left and 11,5" square on the right.

Right side together sew with the backing fabric leaving 4" opening for turning over.

After turning over iron well.

Stitch along the boarder and the edges.

You are ready for serving!

Highway table runner tutorial

Do you remember the billboard mug rugs from yesterday?
Where are they standing? Along the highways and roads. Correct!
The second part of my project is to sew a table runner matching highway.

Then read the instructions.
You will need
grey fabric - 26" x 15"
white fabric - 10"x 5"
green printed fabric - 26" x 2"
for binding -  26"x 6"
batting - 26"x 15"
back fabric - 26"x 15"

First we have to sew the broken line between roadways.
Cut stripes 1,5" wide and 10" long from white and grey fabric (3 stripes from each).
Sew them along this way.

Cut 1,5" stripes and sew together to make two long stripes (around 25") with grey pieces at the beginning and at the end..

From grey fabric cut 4 stripes 3" wide  26" long.
Sew two of them to each side of the broken line.

Repeat once more with the other broken line.
From green printed fabric cut a stripe 2" wide  26" long. This would be the grass between roads.
Stitch together add batting. Quilt and binding.

For quilting I have chosen straight stitching like a  tyre's trail.
I recommend using the walking foot.
I have stitched first lines with ordinary foot, but the top fabric became a little wavy - look at the upper seam.
The fabric for the binding is so interesting. It makes the hard shoulders.
It looks as it is bias, but this is only a bias print. I have cut t selvage to selvage.

Good morning!

A table topper or a wall hanging

At very first beginning it has to be combined with violet and dark red fabrics for an anniversary wall hanging.
The idea was good, the colors run together, but when began collect them I was not satisfied. The shapes or the prints have "beaten " each other.
Finished the wall hanging present in red/violet gamma and had left this for waiting inspiration.
Last weekend it came. I have finished so fast and I am glad with the result.

Table topper or wall hanging?
I am looking  for an answer.

Table decor or simply useful organizer?
At the very beginning this case was only a place to put in a set for serving and a napkin.
When began sewing I was sure I have to make as a table decoration.
I have chosen heavy cotton with print for outside fabric and nice linen brown for inside.
Very simple, but looks elegant.
