Quilting a square - tutorial

You remember my Circus quilt, don't you?
When I have shown it to the Patchwork group my friends advised me to add some quilting on the blank squares.
In fact I had been wandering about this , but have no final idea I preffer.
I tried to add stars, pinwheels etc., but without result.
So now, some months later,  I decide to quilt squares.  Two inch squares different thread's colors.

I haven't erasable pencil and had to think out how to stitch them equal.
FREEZER PAPER.
This was the solution.

Cut a 2 inches square and iron on the desired position. Measure with a ruler.

 Pin around.

Stitch along the perimeter using walking foot or FMQ.

Remove the freezer paper.
So easy.

I had to change 9 times bobbins and upper thread.
I think the quilt looks better this time.

Baby quilt CIRCUS TIME is finished

I am satisfied! I have finished the baby quilt CIRCUS TIME!
As you know I have started designing last year and this year in February  after some days of wandering how to quilt the baby quilt it is finished.
Here it is in all its beauty.

The back is interesting, too. I collected all colorful pieces left and white rests from sashing, stitched them together , rotate alternate squares and voila.
Here you can see the quilting better.
I have chosen the most simple way for quilting because there are too many colors on the top.

For the binding I have chosen a lovely fabric  In the Dog House White Be a Star from Fat quarter shop.
It is one of the fabrics from my Christmas present - I love it.

You can read more and get the pattern for the blocks in my CRAFTSY shop.

Oh, I have to put a label. I am going to make one :)

News

What a day was yesterday! Amazing!
I was featured in Craftsy newsletter  for my pattern

Valentine hearts LOVE paper pieced blocks

Two day before I was at Craftsy blog for Valentine day.
You can get the pattern from here.

And the other important news...
I have finished the Circus time pattern.
After finishing the circus elephant it took me some day to collect all the blocks with sashing strips.

Now I have to quilt and binding this project.
It wold be pleasant time after all my doubts about position of the blocks and choosing the fabric for sashing are in the past.
I have some ideas for the blank squares, but come in a few days to see the result of my efforts.
Till then check in my Craftsy shop for the pack of blocks.

Circus elephant

I know you have been waiting so-o-o long.
I have began last summer. But some circumstances has happened and I am not in condition to finish circus themed baby quilt.
Clown, balloons, rabbit in a cylinder, chapito - circus tent, banners, double wonky star.
All of them is available in my CRAFTSY shop.
Now the last of the blocks is finished.

I am very proud with the elephant dress.
This is a vintage fabric that has strips with prints. I think the are the best choice for the dress.

I need a little time to finish the top and quilt the whole project.
Then I have to describe the pattern and finally till end of the month you will enjoy it.
Be patient, please!

Illusion with a rabbit

I think this is the oldest illusion trick - hiding a rabbit in a cylinder and later  showing it to the public.
It is part of circus productions for kids. They always like it and every time wonder how it is possible to put rabbits inside.
The pattern is available HERE and THERE.
I am collecting different fabric patterns that will match my Circus theme quilt. And still thinking about best design of of the quilt.

Balloons, balloons

Today I was playing with balloons. They are a part of my circus theme.
You could put on a potholder, table mat, baby quilt, bag, etc.

The mirror version I made with four stripes which is the full pattern.
If the fabric you had chosen is very colorful you can use only one piece for the balloon.
You can find the pattern here.

Bunting flags paper pieced block

I know I promised to make these patterns still in September, but some events changed my plans.
Anyway the circus theme quilt is going slowly, but surely.
The clown was alive, the rabbit in a cylinder, the ballon, chapito. All of them are in my Craftsy store.
Now it is time for bunting flags or banner I intend to put round the whole quilt.
Designing and sewing were easy. I found that I need more time to take a picture and posting here.
The great idea of this pattern is that sewing a mirror image and attach together will give a long, long garland of flags that could be used as a boarder.
Don't throw away anything of your scraps, it will be very useful for this project.

The Clown is alive

After some troubles with my internet provider I am in the global net again.
And you can see the clown paper pieced block alive.
I appliqued the red nose and stitched by hand  with tiny stitches.
Almost done. The pompons on the dress should be made from felt or to sew buttons.
I am going to use it for a baby quilt so don't think the button is a good idea.
I will thinking a little bit more.

The circus is here!

Do you remember the childhood when circus was in the town?
We have eaten sugar floss and candy canes asking for more and more.
Unforgettable happy moments.
Here he is - The clown! A smiling, but sad person.
Do you hear the ringing bells on his hat?
This pattern is available in my Craftsy shop.
