The hexagons were made from two different stripes - one is 1 3/4 inches, another - 3 inches. I have challenged myself to bind hexagons. First found three different ways , and finally made my own way :) I used a bias stripe - the outer corners are easy to bind - very similar to right angle binding. The tricky way is for the inner corners - I pull the bias tape and stitch to the middle point, then pivot quilt and follow stitching. On the back side I stitched by hand.

I like using rests for making back, so my quilts always have two "faces".

Siddi is the name of Africa's women who moved to India and make such quilts..</p><p>There are many tutorials, but I have watched one and started with a small piece - a mug rug. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi-zQjQCNRD5oSSqQConJpxA1h18RWLWBxelg-IRdGdJsjyuabhatsQrr1CER0EFQeCokgKJFKYk6arHJxnToJ3Dk3vTzR9_9FYKo7YEEz5TPvXpzaQtvvwUeffN1X0Yqs9oAh1wM1Qy08ENThlR1DkmTC1mzsLyywQUaFA1wt0v5PCJ39nJT2o8Toflw=s4608" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="4608" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi-zQjQCNRD5oSSqQConJpxA1h18RWLWBxelg-IRdGdJsjyuabhatsQrr1CER0EFQeCokgKJFKYk6arHJxnToJ3Dk3vTzR9_9FYKo7YEEz5TPvXpzaQtvvwUeffN1X0Yqs9oAh1wM1Qy08ENThlR1DkmTC1mzsLyywQUaFA1wt0v5PCJ39nJT2o8Toflw=s320" width="320" /></a></div><p>I was hooked. It took me 2 hours from start to finish. </p><p>The most important thing I have learned:</p><p>* The outer row is the most difficult to make - once you stitch the second round it goes fast and pleasant.</p><p></p><p>* It is easier to use old (used) fabrics.</p><p>* Thimble will help, but it is not a must.<br /></p><p>* I have to take a rest every hour - making some stretching. I was so obsessed and forget about short rest with a gym.<br /></p><br />Rumihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09185843671182337993noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8425553747752978311.post-36217632249184549472021-12-29T22:19:00.002-08:002021-12-29T22:19:22.374-08:00A Love tale - Last quilt for 2021<p>It is not easy to sit down in front of computer to write a post here with Instagram's invasion. Not so easy as before. With mobile in hand it seems the easiest thing is to open any App.</p><p>Call me old fashioned , but I am still doing my effort to keep alive this kid - my blog. 11 years so far. It became a teenager. Ha ha.</p><p>The last quilt for 2021 was a special design for a 14 years old girl.She described her idea and mentioned her favorite colors. You say it is enough , let's go!</p><p>I have promised to myself not to buy any fabric until I reduced my stash at least half. This was first time I have heard about the Moravian star.</p><p> It was EPP and seemed not so hard to make. I have GOOGLEd different images and realized that among big variety there is not a star with one colored points.<br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA5nMZLT7GFn3UNd5-nbqYCKKqR8RDdqCt46RAbBoU1dswTvxgXvUwsFLeIvMYuwg6CwHaIy2JDu8Udu0hkqDIcyTv7ghUxJ0nyAaIuFkCky_DthHl9ejujj44Q3gyQkT-nxt_J5_-oKnu/s4608/IMG_20201207_113601.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4608" data-original-width="3456" height="359" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA5nMZLT7GFn3UNd5-nbqYCKKqR8RDdqCt46RAbBoU1dswTvxgXvUwsFLeIvMYuwg6CwHaIy2JDu8Udu0hkqDIcyTv7ghUxJ0nyAaIuFkCky_DthHl9ejujj44Q3gyQkT-nxt_J5_-oKnu/w269-h359/IMG_20201207_113601.jpg" width="269" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>So I made a scheme with 20 different colors. I had to finished because it was a memory quilt for the 30-th wedding anniversary of my beloved brother.<br />
<br />
Happy I can took some pictures in home, where we lived and played as kids.<br />

<br />
It is absolutely improvisational top.<br />
<br />
Removed the waistband, inner seam allowances added some triangles to build a rectangles shape and gathered them at the end.<br />
<br />
Fast and furious :)<br />
<br />

<br />
Instead of batting I will add a polar blanket.<br />
<br />
It will be a picnic quilt/ lap quilt size and I am wandering about backing.<br />
<br />
I will digging in my stash tomorrow.<br />

I have to repair the old clothes peg bag. Suddenly saw the leftover from jeans I used for making a roll for my everyday gym.<br />
Voila.<br />
I made plan to make a bag and use the pockets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt5QqgcYbVuhcbuG-8zyOEn51r-DR3MdJnoenPcy9IToqgkxfKG8u6ZDQD9SZV0lQXU3ColvSj0bOJBmaQGeDzriJ45PweNC0yMQ2MLpC_hlpJyKxnNjbifK5TPJo6_k9HUoa54jVbVfIO/s1600/P1180347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1063" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt5QqgcYbVuhcbuG-8zyOEn51r-DR3MdJnoenPcy9IToqgkxfKG8u6ZDQD9SZV0lQXU3ColvSj0bOJBmaQGeDzriJ45PweNC0yMQ2MLpC_hlpJyKxnNjbifK5TPJo6_k9HUoa54jVbVfIO/s400/P1180347.JPG" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />
I have the hook hanger from the old one.<br />
<br />
Some directions if you like it .<br />
<br />
1. Cut out the inside pocket bag of the front pocket.<br />
2. Stitch the side and bottom seams.<br />
The tricky action - because the waist band is very thick I used additional bias piece to bind it. Make as quilt binding.<br />
3. Stitch along the waist band , put the hanger and finished by hand to keep in place.<br />
<br />
Easy, right? One hour project.<br />
<br />
