Tiles make illusion

About a month ago I liked very much this picture posted by Dan Rouse in his Flickr account

I decided to make in gray and red. I had doubt about the size of squares. Finally made a pattern and began sewing. Look what happened when ordered the pieces on a table.

Then I ordered another way...

and another...

What combination looks better?
