Counting sheep and the baby quilt

Have the babies to count sheep for falling asleep?

I am not sure. Especially when they have a loving grandmas that prepare warming quilts.

Judy Collier bought my pattern Counting Sheep and made this beautiful quilt for her "grandchild on the way".

When I asked her to send picture of finished quilt I was not expected to receive something. You know, people are too busy nowdays and  full with e-mails, messages and pictures.

I was wrong!

She was so kind to send pictures and surprised me with finished baby quilt.

Look at this amazing  result!

Look at the quilting she had chosen. So many sheep up to the hills.

During the process of sewing she asked me for assistance - she had idea to put the grass between the sheep, but nowhere through internet she found a pattern.

I was glad to design some blocks, even suggested to make a mirror images for having more grass paper pieced blocks.

Thank you, Judy, for this idea, I will add to the pattern.

So happy to have such customers.

They make me proud with my designing abilities and computer skills.

9patch sampler

The Block number 8 was easy to make - 6 HST triangles and 3 squares.

Number 9 was complicated.

Even I decided to use paper piecing sewing corduroy was not easy, but the result is satisfying.

The quilt pattern at this stage

To be continued...

The 9patch game continues

Now comes the block number 6 called Ribbon quilt. It was very easy to make.
Half square triangles and a square in the centre.

I have found an interesting tutorial here:

This is great if you want to have more Ribbon quilt blocks.
Probably one day I will give it a try.
The place of this block in the whole quilt is:

The number 7 is very common Greek square.

To be honest I am very sorry I have started this project as a Recycle project - I have collected some corduroy shirts. They are very colorful and nice to touch, but sewing them is a disaster for me. Some of them are very soft, some have 3% lycra. I am very punctual to cut and sew along the lines of the printed pattern. This block took me a tittle more time than sewing it with cotton fabrics.
Anyway like the final look.

I have googled this block and think that most beautiful result is Fresh Lemon Quilts color idea

The previous blocks from the Game you can found HERE, Here,  hEre and heRe :)

College days - what has happened later

What a day!
My friend's daughter is going to study in England.
Do you remember the graduation bag I have made for her?
Now I want to make something that will make her happy when she is homesick.
A cozy cushion seemed to be a proper decision.
The block "Old time learning" I have designed for the College day Hop was an orphan and I thought it will be great base for a pillow case for a young student.

Download for FREE block from here and make one for you of your friends' children.
The block is 10" finished so I have added 3.5" strips left, right, up and down. This makes 16" finished size which is standard pillow insert.

Add thin batting and backing and quilt.
I am very proud with idea adding quilting as notepad -  dark violet for rows and red for the margin on the left.

The back is envelope closure.

Happy sewing to you and happy learning to all students!

College days Blog Hop

The day has came. It is my turn.
I was very excited when Soma from Whims and fancies invited me to participate in this blog hop.
This was a sign that someone has noticed my work and like it.

At the beginning I have no idea what to make - we have freedom for any quilting technique we decide.
The idea came one night when sitting in front of my notebook and reading some posts on my favorite blogs.
My old desk lamp (from my students' years) had lightening a spot on the desk.
I remembered the time when had red books and learned formulas.
This should be the block - "Old time learning".

It was born too fast and on the next day I tested it with fabrics.
"Liberty" fabrics for the lamp, printed newsletter in red and black from my dear friend Elnora, green yellow purple from my stash.
Here it is.

The block is 10 x 10 inches finished size. You can download the pattern from CRAFTSY for FREE!
It will remain free from July through September 2014.

I love to see finished blocks made with my patterns! You could upload picture of blocks at my Flickr group.
Or you can share your picture in the Flickr group for the blog hop!

Thank you, Soma, for joining me in College Days Blog Hop!
It was such a fun!
Happy sewing!
